In September 2024, China's banana imports decreased by 13.82% compared to the same period in 2023, totaling 105,000 tons with a value of US$62.8 million. From January to September 2024, banana imports were down by 8.5% year-on-year, totaling 1.2 million tons with a value of US$650 million, marking a 22.44% decrease compared to the previous year. The main suppliers were Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Ecuador, and Laos, with only Vietnam and Laos experiencing increases in exports. The majority of China's banana importers are distributed across 19 provinces, with the largest imports in Shanghai, Liaoning, and Zhejiang. The opening of the Beijing-Laos Railway is expected to boost Laos' banana market share in Beijing from 30% to over 50%.
