Myanmar's avocado market is experiencing growth, with the European market showing a positive response to Myanmar avocados, and Singapore and Thailand expressing interest in importing them. In 2020, Myanmar attempted to export 0.5 tons of avocados to the UK by air, with success in the UK market and interest from Germany and Italy. Prior to the pandemic, 85% of Myanmar's avocado exports were sent to Thailand, with a small fraction to China via border trade. Myanmar plants avocado trees primarily for international trade, with a production season from October to February and March of the following year. The country grows about 23 types of avocados across Shan State, Chin State, Mandalay Province, and Sagaing Province, covering about 20,000 acres, with an additional 500 acres expected in PyinOoLwin this year.
