The association consultant Wu Suowen stated that in addition to corn kernels, Myanmar is working to produce high value-added processed products such as corn silage and corn syrup to expand exports.
Data shows that in the previous fiscal year, Myanmar exported a total of 2.4 million tons of corn kernels, generating foreign exchange earnings of $574 million. Myanmar's corn is mainly exported to Thailand. Thailand provides a 7-month duty-free import policy from February to August each year. Additionally, India, the Philippines, and Vietnam are also important export markets.
According to data from the Yangon Mang Ying Long Goods Trading Station, the current FOB price for corn kernels is $255-265 per ton, with the wholesale price in Yangon market being around 1,700 Myanmar kyat per pyi (approximately 1.6 kilograms).
