Peru's President of the Committee on Menestras and other Grains of the Association of Exporters (ADEX), Jorge Fernández Gil, called for increased public-private collaboration to boost the competitiveness of the country's legume sector. Speaking at the National Legumes Day seminar organized by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), Gil emphasized the need for state training in optimal pesticide use and harvest safety, and for companies to add more value and diversify their offerings. He also stressed the importance of promoting underconsumed legumes for their nutritional benefits. Despite a slight decrease in legume shipments to 30 million 285 thousand dollars between January and May of this year, compared to the same period in 2023, he highlighted the quality and market potential of Peruvian legumes.
