A new fungus, named Pseudopestalotiopsis gilvanii, has been discovered to affect guarana plants, causing leaf disease. The fungus was identified through field observations, isolations, and laboratory analyses by Embrapa Amazônia Ocidental's Laboratory of Molecular Biology. It belongs to the pestalotiopsis group, which causes diseases in various hosts. The fungus was also found to affect açaí palms and oil palm but did not affect banana. This discovery highlights the need for monitoring and further research into this new pathogen.
