The National Seed Institute of Argentina (INASE) has approved three new walnut varieties, JJ Racimosa INTA, Del Saz INTA, and Cóndor Huasi INTA, to be added to the National Registry of Cultivars, expanding the existing 12 registered varieties in Catamarca province. These new varieties were selected by the National Institute of Agricultural Technology of Argentina (INTA) to adapt to climate change, deal with adverse weather conditions, and reduce the impact of pests and diseases. The provincial walnut production ranges from 5,000 to 8,000 tons, with over 85% cultivated by small and medium producers. The most cultivated variety in Argentina is Chandler, but the new INTA varieties are noted for their high productivity and resistance, making them promising additions for the walnut industry.
