The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) in Peru has introduced the new INIA 909 KATEKYL forage oats cultivar, developed in partnership with the National Institute for Agrarian Innovation (INIA). This variety is designed to boost the quality and profitability of agricultural production in Peru, with the potential to yield 61 tons of green forage and 1.9 tons of seed per hectare. Additionally, it is pest-tolerant, resistant to low temperatures, and suitable for acidic soils. The early vegetative cycle and adaptability to a wide range of altitudes make it an ideal choice for small and medium farmers in high Andean areas, especially during the dry season. MIDAGRI plans to release more new cultivars throughout the year to support family farming.
