The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in partnership with the World Bank, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), has initiated the National Agricultural Sample Census (NASC) in Nigeria after a 30-year hiatus. This initiative aims to gather comprehensive data on the agricultural sector, including the identification of approximately 40.2 million agricultural households, with a focus on crop cultivation, livestock farming, and fishery activities. The data collected will be utilized to enhance food security and economic growth, and to address issues of 'ghost farmers.' The launch of the NASC is seen as a significant step towards improving the understanding of Nigeria's agricultural sector and its development.
