North Korea's food crop production in 2020 is estimated to decrease by 240,000 tons, totaling 4.4 million tons, a 5.2% decrease from the previous year, according to the Rural Development Administration. This is due to adverse weather conditions, typhoon damage, and issues with fertilizer supply and demand. Specifically, rice production decreased by 9.8%, corn by 0.7%, and potatoes and sweet potatoes by 5.3%. However, barley production increased by 6.7% and legumes and grains by 7.1% due to favorable soil conditions.
