Norwegian salmon prices have fallen back to 50 kroner, and exports of sprat are rising as strong buying from the European Union emerges.

According to the latest weekly report (Week 49, December 1-7, 2025) from the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), the export price of Norwegian frozen mackerel has slightly declined after maintaining a high level for several consecutive weeks, but it still hovers around the "high price ceiling" of 50 Norwegian kroner (approximately 4.93 US dollars) per kilogram. Mackerel prices have continued to soar during the 2025 fishing season, mainly driven by reduced fishing quotas, strong demand, and market expectations of a further reduction in 2026 quotas. This week, the export average price of frozen mackerel weighing less than 600 grams fell by 3.7% compared to the previous week, slightly below 50 kroner/kilogram (free on board, FOB Norwegian border).
