Not without scandals and with record deliveries: The results of the grape export season from Egypt to the EU in 2023

By the end of 2023, Egypt was able to significantly increase the export of fresh table grapes to EU countries, EastFruit reports. At the same time, success in export volumes was somewhat overshadowed by scandals related to the illegal use of protected grape varieties in the country. Despite this, Egyptian exports to the EU reached a historical record during the main supply season in 2023! In January-October 2023, over 70 thousand tons of fresh table grapes were imported from Egypt to the EU. This result is more than a third higher than the figure for the entire calendar year 2022, and 37% higher than the average for the previous five calendar years! The key month that provided a record volume of Egyptian exports to the EU was June, during which Egyptian exporters increased sales by one and a half times compared to the previous year.
