The 2025 Merino ram-selling season demonstrated renewed confidence across the wool sector, underpinned by stronger commodity prices, tightening national sheep numbers and greater emphasis on genetic improvement. Throughout NSW, Victoria, South Australia and WA, buyers pursued rams with high fleece weights, balanced carcase traits, structural integrity and strong fertility indicators. Clearances were widely robust, with many studs recording their strongest averages in several years. Demand for dual-purpose Merinos, capable of producing both premium wool and profitable carcase yields, was a defining theme of the season, with buyers consistently seeking early growth, positive fat, high muscle scores and improved welfare traits. To qualify for inclusion in ACM Agri's Top 50 Merino Stud Ram Rankings, studs were required to meet strict and consistent eligibility rules.
