The Danish pig industry is working towards eradicating the PRRS viral disease, which leads to fertility and respiratory issues in pigs and increased antibiotic use. The aim is to have 85% of sow herds and 75% of slaughter pigs PRRS-free by 2025. Since last year, it has been compulsory for pig farms to be aware of their PRRS status. Currently, 95% of Denmark's 4,240 pig farms know their PRRS status, with 62% of fattening pig farms and 67% of sow farms testing negative for the disease.
