Norway's seafood exports in October increased by 6% compared to the same period last year, reaching a value of NOK 11.2 billion, despite the coronavirus pandemic. The number of export markets has also increased, now standing at 115. The exports were driven by salmon and herring, with Poland, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, and the USA being the largest markets. The value of herring exports in October was the highest in over 10 years. However, there was a decline in mackerel exports due to record-breaking catches in September and increased competition from Russian king crabs. Prawn exports also declined due to higher raw material prices and a stronger krone, although there was an increase in exports to the UK. The government aims to increase exports excluding oil and gas by at least 50% by 2030, with seafood exports expected to contribute significantly to this goal.
