The Ohangwena region in Namibia has issued a warning to residents not to consume fish from flood plains due to a suspected fish disease outbreak. This follows the discovery of dead catfish and kapenta fish in the Oshana sha Nalumono flood plain, with symptoms including blood spots. The Ohangwena Regional Council and relevant ministries have been notified and are conducting tests to confirm the cause of the disease, which is currently suspected to be a fungal infection. The public has been advised to cease catching and eating fish from these areas until further testing and results are available.
