Olive oil sales have seen a significant decrease of 22.8% in the first half of this year, according to NTech and Shopper's portal. The sales drop is reflected in the decreasing share of olive oil in the vegetable oil market, which has fallen from 2.1% to 1.6%. The sales decline was first observed in 2023, with a 15-20% drop, and has continued into the current year. The decrease in demand is primarily due to the significant price increase of olive oil, attributed to high production costs and poor harvests in major producers like Italy and Spain. Despite the overall sales decline and increased pricing, Russian sales of olive oil saw a 13.7% increase, making it 12 times more expensive than sunflower oil. The Oil and Fat Union of Russia also confirmed the price hike, highlighting the impact of small harvests on production costs.
