Despite a decrease in border exports, Myanmar corn has seen excellent pricing due to increased foreign purchasing power, with countries such as the Philippines, Vietnam, and India showing increased demand. Despite the lapse of the tax-free period for corn exports to Thailand, the country is still accepting Myanmar corn by sea. The price of corn has risen from 1,350 to 1,550 Myanmar Kyats per ton, attributed to increased foreign demand. Domestic corn prices range from 75,000 to 78,000 Myanmar Kyats for a 54-tug bag, while the price at Yangon Port is 1,550 Myanmar Kyats per tug. In 2023, most corn exports will be made through Yangon Port, and the cross-border corn market in southern Shan State and eastern Shan State's border towns is expected to strengthen in 2024.
