Record-breaking average wholesale prices for onions in Uzbekistan have reached a four-time increase from the previous record, due to a massive shortage caused by frozen onions stored under poor conditions during abnormally cold weather. The global onion market is experiencing tension, with prices surging in Central Asia and elsewhere due to natural disasters and Russian aggression in Ukraine. As of January 20, 2023, Uzbekistan's wholesale onion prices are the highest in the region and even exceed those in occupied Ukraine, indicating a significant global impact on onion prices.
