Onion prices in Delhi, India, have surged to over 70 rupees per kilogram, with some areas seeing prices as high as 80 rupees per kilogram, marking a 47% increase from the previous year. This spike has also impacted Nepal, where wholesale prices have risen to around 130 rupees per kilogram and retail prices could reach 200 rupees per kilogram due to additional tariffs and taxes. In response, the Indian Federal Food Minister has directed government cooperatives to sell onions at 35 rupees per kilogram. Prices are anticipated to stabilize with the arrival of the new harvest in about a month.
