(Iksan=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Jin-bang = The Korea Institute of Agricultural Technology Promotion announced on the 6th that it has embarked on a demonstration project for smart fruit tree foliar fertilizer machines incorporating autonomous driving technology through the "2025 Agricultural Technology Industry-Academia Cooperation Support Project."
The Institute is carrying out the demonstration project for smart fruit tree foliar fertilizer machines in collaboration with Professor Hong Sun-joong's research team from the Korea National Agricultural University.
Specifically, the project demonstrates functions such as ▲ automatic stop after obstacle detection ▲ minimizing braking distance ▲ stable driving on slopes ▲ agitator and remaining quantity gauge ▲ increasing spray volume.
In particular, an autonomous driving function was newly incorporated to reflect the needs of agricultural sites. This function operates by autonomously driving along a set route and returning to its original position after completing the task.
The research team also held field demonstration events in four regions: Jeongseon in Gangwon, Yusong in Daejeon, Jangsu in Jeonbuk, and Yeongju in Gyeongbuk.
Apple farmers in Jeongseon County, who participated in the demonstration research, evaluated the equipment as "reducing pesticide exposure through remote control operation and operating stably on slopes, making it suitable for elderly farmers."
The research team is further improving the functions by incorporating advanced autonomous driving and extending the length of the pesticide tank based on the opinions of the farmers.
Director Ahn Ho-geun of the Institute said, "We will actively promote field demonstration and technology dissemination so that excellent agricultural research results can be linked to the actual benefits of farmers."
