The organic market in the Netherlands saw another clear growth in 2025. In supermarkets, organic sales grew by 9.8% to 1.44 billion euros. Including specialty stores, total retail sales amount to over 2 billion euros. The growth is mainly driven by product groups such as bread & pastries (+61%), meat & meat products (+18.6%) and fresh dairy (+15.2%). The organic specialty stores grew with a sales increase of 7.8% to nearly 500 million euros in sales. The organic agricultural area in the Netherlands is growing to 95,509 hectares, which accounts for 5.3% of the total agricultural area. In addition, over 7,000 hectares are in conversion. The Netherlands is still far from the ambition of 15% organic area by 2030. In Europe, organic retail sales grew by 4.1% to 58.7 billion euros in 2024. Worldwide, sales in 2024 increased by approximately 5% to almost 145 billion euros. At the same time, the organic area is growing more slowly. In Europe, growth remained limited to 0.5%.
