Hungary: Our potato crop this year is beyond imagination

This year, the producers of Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands harvested potatoes from 560,000 hectares, a 7 percent larger area. The harvest exceeds the five-year average, at around 22.7 million tons. In Germany, it is estimated that around 12.7 million tons of potatoes were harvested, a record amount, 9 percent more than in 2023. This equates to an increase in cropland. The average yield was around 44 tons per hectare, according to AKI's latest market report. In Poland, the potato harvest in 2024 is estimated at 5.8 million tons, which is more than last year's 5.6 million tons, which was, however, the smallest crop in the last 15 years. In Hungarian, this year's harvest is not good either.
