(Paju=Yonhap News) Reporter Noh Seung-hyuk = Paju City announced on the 22nd that it has signed a business agreement with the Han River Basin Environmental Agency to create a "festival without disposable items."
Through the agreement, the two organizations aim to reduce the use of disposable items at festival venues and expand the use of reusable containers, joining forces to transition to a sustainable circular economy society.
Paju City will actively work to promote the use of reusable containers at festivals, and the Han River Basin Environmental Agency will actively cooperate in providing administrative and financial support.
Initially, the project will be implemented at Paju's representative festivals, the 'Paju Gaeseong Ginseng Festival' (October) and the 'Paju Jangdan Bean Festival' (November), supporting the rental and cleaning of reusable containers.
For this, the city plans to use reusable containers for 20,000 people at the Gaeseong Ginseng Festival this year and install return spaces to increase the return rate. They will also conduct a campaign to reduce disposable items.
Shim Jae-woo, Director of Resource Circulation, said, "We hope this agreement will help spread a resource circulation culture by reducing disposable item usage at local festivals."
