World: Peach and nectarine prices collapse

In addition to the direct consequences on civilian populations, the war in Ukraine and the tensions of the last few days in Russia are changing the structure of the world economy and the fruit and vegetable sector is no exception. As reported in an article by East Fruit (click here to learn more), the intricate internal situation in Russia - with the capture of rebels and former prisoners - has led to a collapse in fruit prices in many countries that trade with the federation. Complicating the supply of seasonal fruit was the sharp devaluation of the Russian ruble and, at the same time, the blockage of the roads that guarantee incoming logistics. The biggest drops in quotation were recorded by peaches and nectarines in Georgia, Armenia , Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkey. As Fedir Rybalko, international consultant to FAO, also stated: “Literally in one day, the prices of these fruits almost halved, from 0.80 to 0.45 dollars per kilogram; with a continuing downward trend in prices”. ...
