Pear production in Italy and France is projected to rebound from last year's decline, with Italy expected to see a significant increase in production, contributing to a modest overall recovery in the EU pear crop for 2024/25. However, growers in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain are anticipated to experience a decrease in output, leading to a harvest of 1.79 million tonnes, which is above last year's record low but below traditional levels. Other countries like Portugal and Greece are expected to see larger harvests, while Belgium and the Netherlands are forecasted to have lower harvests, and Spain's pear harvest is expected to fall by 14.8%. There has been a noticeable rise in the number of club varieties of pears in the German market, indicating a demand for high-quality pears in supermarkets.
