Khanh Hoa province in Vietnam is leading in the development of marine aquaculture, particularly in the cultivation of grouper pearls. This species accounts for a significant portion of farmed fish in the region, bringing stable income to farmers. The National Assembly has passed a resolution to further boost marine aquaculture, including a mechanism for grouper pearl farming. The Nha Trang Marine Research and Development Center has developed a technology for grouper pearl farming, which is now widely adopted in the region. The fish is farmed all year round and fetches a higher price than other groupers, making it a popular choice for farmers. The Aquaculture Research Institute III is producing around 500,000-700,000 thumb-sized grouper fingerlings annually to meet demand. The institute has also shared seed production technology with five units in Khanh Hoa province and trained many in Cam Ranh city and Ninh Hoa town.
