Peru breaks a new record in avocado exports

Peru has broken a new avocado export record and achieved a remarkable milestone in the first eight months of 2024. A total of 539,313 tons of avocados have been shipped, valued at US$1.129 billion. This volume has surpassed everything seen in 2023, which recorded 595,625 tons worth US$958.9 million. The 2024 figures also mark the highest exportable value for Peruvian avocados in history, surpassing the US$1.061 billion obtained in 2021. These data, processed by ADEX Data Trade and analyzed by the Integral Rural Development Service (Sedir), underline a sustained growth trajectory for the Peruvian avocado sector over the past five years. Juan Cerna Espinoza, executive director of Sedir, highlighted the fundamental role that avocado plays in the Peruvian economy, especially for small producers: "It is a key product for the economy of our country, which benefits small producers and their families."
