In the first quarter of 2024, Peru's ginger exports reached a high of 8,453 tons, generating over US$ 22.6 million in revenue, with the United States, the Netherlands, Canada, and Germany being the primary markets. This growth builds on the record-breaking year of 2023, which saw ginger exports hit 73,196 tons and valued at US$ 119.1 million, marking a 26% increase in volume and a 24% increase in value since 2023. The success of Peruvian ginger is largely due to its superior quality, availability, and the fact that over 60% of exports are organic. The main production areas are in the Junín region, with two producer organizations promoting Commercial Articulation Plans and having Organic and Global GAP certifications.
