In 2023, Peru ranked as the tenth largest exporter of capsicum products, contributing only 3% to the global market. The Capsicum Committee of the Association of Exporters (ADEX) believes there is potential for growth and increasing market share due to the quality of Peruvian capsicum. The US, Mexico, and Guatemala are potential markets for growth. However, the sector faces challenges such as illegal pesticides, seed shortages, water contamination, and climate phenomena. ADEX calls for increased public-private collaboration and logistical infrastructure to improve the industry's competitiveness.
