In 2024, Peru faced extreme weather conditions, marking the warmest year in 61 years with a national average temperature of 20.29 °C, surpassing the historical average by 1.18 °C. The country experienced prolonged droughts, forest fires, heavy rains, and severe frosts, particularly affecting the Cajamarca region. Drought conditions were severe in the northern highlands and the Amazon River reached one of its lowest levels. Forest fires covered a total area of 574,787.88 ha, and heavy rains caused flooding, infrastructure damage, and closures. Additionally, 18 cold weather events were recorded in the Amazon region and meteorological frosts were reported in the Andean region, with strong winds on the coast.
