Between January and August 2022, Peruvian avocado exports saw a 9.5% decrease in value compared to the same period in 2021, but still surpassed the values of 2020 and 2019. Despite the drop, avocado remains the primary non-traditional export, accounting for 7% of non-traditional exports and 2% of total shipments abroad. However, lower prices and reduced international demand, especially from Europe, have impacted the value of exports. Production areas are primarily in coastal regions, with La Libertad being the leading region. Despite the challenge of potential overproduction, ComexPerú suggests diversifying into Asian markets and using the avocado success to boost other exports like blackberries, raspberries, and aguaymantos.
