Peruvian avocado exports grow 49% in May 2021

According to the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration, avocado exports from Peru have been recovering and as of May of this year they grew 49%, adding USD 463 million and a volume of 209,439 tons. According to the entity, avocado shipments increased only 0.10% in 2020 compared to 2019, exporting USD 758 million for 411,227 tons. The SIEA database of Midagri revealed that last year's avocado harvest was 46,780 hectares, which meant a decrease of 0.04% compared to 2019. In turn, its production increased 19.48% in 2020 with 642,982 tons. The departments that produced the most avocado were La Libertad, which accounts for 33% of the total production; Lima (14%); Ica (13%); Lambayeque (11%); and Junín (7%), detailed the local press.
