Peruvian garlic exports fall -48% in volume in the first month of 2024

(Agraria.pe) In January 2024, the volume of garlic exported by Peru amounted to 606 tons, experiencing a significant drop of -48% compared to the same period of the previous year (1,154 tons). Likewise, the decrease in destinations (going from 8 in January 2023 to 5 in January of this year) has also affected remittances. In this first month of the year, the main garlic markets were Mexico, with 56% participation, equivalent to 338 tons. The United States follows, with 24% (147 tons); Spain, with 12% (73 tons); Poland, with 4% (24 tons); and Guadeloupe, with 4% (24 tons). Regarding the preferences of the international market, the presentation of fresh garlic led overwhelmingly, representing 99.9% of the total exported, while the Callao Port Terminal was the main exit point (99.9%).
