The European Union (EU) has removed Peruvian organic quinoa from its list of organic products subject to additional controls, thanks to a public-private effort by ADEX, Foreign Affairs, Midagri, Mincetur, Senasa and PromPerú. This development, announced by ADEX's central manager of Exports, Diego Llosa Velásquez, will benefit national farmers and is expected to facilitate the dispatch of other organic products like lemon, pomegranate, and coffee. In 2024, only two Peruvian organic products will be subject to additional controls. Meanwhile, quinoa exports have seen significant growth, with the USA being the leading destination. This comes as a significant improvement after the EU implemented additional controls on this Andean grain due to pesticide residues in 2015.
