Peruvian shipments of turmeric totaled 2,252 tons for US$ 3.7 million between January and September

(Agraria.pe) Between January and September 2023, Peruvian exports of turmeric reached 2,252 tons for US$ 3.7 million, registering an increase of +20% in volume and +30% in value compared to 1,878 tons per US$ 2.3 million reached in the same period of the previous year. Currently, India is the world's largest supplier of turmeric, followed by Burma and the Netherlands (a “re-exporter” actually). In 2022, Peru was ranked 8th in the world ranking of turmeric supplier countries and 1st in Latin America, so, with the new results, its global position is expected to improve. The growth of Peruvian turmeric exports is aligned with the expectations that existed about this product, which was forecast to increase its global demand by 12.5% between 2020 and 2025, explained by the increase in concern for health, anti-inflammatory properties and the growth of the textile and cosmetic market.
