The Philippines is aiming to become the top exporter of coconut products to China, following the country's second largest supply to China in 2020 with a 27% market share. The country exported about 43,700 metric tons of coconut products to China, valued at $62.85 million. Other major suppliers of coconut products to China include Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia. The Philippines could also dominate in this market as it gained access to China for young green coconut exports in 2019. In the US, the Philippines supplies 60% of imports of coconut oil and 73% of crude coconut oil, making it one of the top three products imported by the US from the Philippines for three consecutive years. The increase in demand for coconut products is due to positive changes in US trade policies, market trends, and dietary guidelines.
