Brazil: Prices of live pigs and special pork carcasses reached the fourth consecutive month of increase in December

Driven by increased demand from slaughterhouses, due to the end of year celebrations, the prices of live pigs and special pork carcasses reached the fourth consecutive month of increase in December. In the SP-5 region (Bragança Paulista, Campinas, Piracicaba, São Paulo and Sorocaba), the kilo of animal stored in cold stores increased in value by 5.3% in relation to November, rising to R$ 6.99 in the last month. In the state of Minas Gerais, in addition to greater demand, the supply of animals in ideal weight for slaughter was reduced, which reinforced price increases. In Patos de Minas (MG), the kilo of live food rose by a strong 7.2% in the period, to an average of R$7.24 in December. In the South region of the country, the animal increased in value by 3.4% in West Santa Catarina (SC), in relation to November, priced at an average of R$ 6.64/kg in the last month.
