The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 20th that out of 69 counties in areas with declining populations, a total of 49 counties applied for the "2026-2027 Rural Fisheries Basic Income Pilot Program." Among these, seven counties were finally selected: Yeoncheon and Jeongseon, Chungnam Cheongyang, Jeonbuk Sunchang, Jeonnam Sinan, Gyeongbuk Yeongyang, and Gyeongnam Namhae. The government, in response to the intensifying phenomenon of rural decline due to population decrease and aging, has decided to urgently address the crisis of rural extinction through discussions in the National Policy Planning Committee, making the rural fisheries basic income pilot program a national task.
