A new protocol on inspection, plant quarantine, and food safety for frozen durian exported from Vietnam to China has been signed. The agreement allows the import of whole, pureed, and pulp durian, as long as it meets China's food safety and plant quarantine standards. The durian must be hand-selected, originate from registered gardens, and be packaged in clean, hygienic materials. After arrival at the Chinese port, only qualified batches will be allowed to enter China. This comes as Vietnam's durian exports to China, which accounted for 90% of its total durian exports in 2023, are on the rise with the growth of durian cultivation in the country.
