Eight trucks of maize, equivalent to 200 metric tons, have been impounded in Mpulungu District, Northern Province, Nigeria, suspected to be intended for smuggling into neighboring countries. The maize was bought from the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in Kasama and was en route to Nakonde district for milling to reduce mealie meal prices. However, its appearance in Mpulungu, a harbor town, has raised suspicions and led to its confiscation. An investigation is underway, and those planning to smuggle maize from the province have been warned to cease. The FRA is also investigating the situation and has threatened to terminate contracts for millers who violate the sales agreement. Terry Milling, the company involved, claims the maize was borrowed for processing.
