A recent study by VTsIOM, commissioned by the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Exporters (VARPE), has found that mackerel, herring, and pink salmon are the most popular fish products among Russians, with pollock, trout, salmon, and sprats following closely. The study, which has been consistent since 2018, also found that 93% of Russians purchase fish and fish products regularly. The most common way Russians consume fish is by frying it, with baked and fish soup being less popular. The study also found that a majority of Russians consume fish dishes at least once a week.
