Spain's potato production has seen a significant decrease, reaching its historical minimum with a drop of 7% compared to the previous campaign, resulting in 1,942,778 tons. This decline is attributed to adverse weather conditions and high temperatures, with the European market also being impacted. Despite setting a new record for exports with €105.5 million, Spain's market share in the community consumption sector has diminished, with competition intense from France, Germany, and the Netherlands. Consumers in Spain are experiencing a decrease in household consumption, despite higher prices per producer, with the average price rising more than the increase in the per-household unit value. The start of the season in April was affected by adverse weather, leading to higher average prices, some of which are the highest since 2016.
