Potato farmers in Sin Phyu Island, Burma are facing market difficulties due to the importation of potatoes from other countries. This is causing competition and reduced prices for locally grown potatoes. The main importers are Bangladesh, India, and recently, China. Despite sufficient domestic production in the Magway Region and Shan State, traders continue to import potatoes for various reasons. Farmers are calling for systematic inspections to ensure import compliance with domestic market regulations and to protect local agriculture.
