Potato farmers in southern Shan State, Myanmar, are facing losses due to heavy rainfall damage and lower market prices. The damage has resulted in reduced yields and quality issues. Currently, potatoes are selling for 3,000-5,000 Myanmar Kyats per ton, but farmers say the price is low due to the ongoing conflict affecting transportation and the coincidental harvest with that of Hin Phyo Zun and neighboring countries. Despite the challenges, under normal conditions, potatoes can fetch good prices. The region, which covers over 10,000 acres, sees production from places like Binlang, Nawdya, and Kalaw.
