Potato prices rise in wholesale markets

Potato prices rose last week, according to a survey by Hortifrúti/Cepea. From October 6 to 10, the average price of special agate type potato was R$ 46/sc of 25 kg in the wholesale market of São Paulo, an increase of 22.2% compared to the previous period. In the wholesale markets of Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte, the increases were even higher, at 38.5% and 31.6%, to R$ 52/sc and R$ 45/sc, respectively. According to researchers from Hortifrúti/Cepea, the sector was already expecting the rise and it is linked to the slowdown of the winter crop, with the harvest in Vargem Grande do Sul (SP) coming to an end.
