A report by Potatoes USA has found that potato sales, including fresh, frozen, and canned, rose by 17.8% to almost $4 billion in the July-September 2022 period compared to the same period in 2021. The sales increase was driven by fresh potatoes, despite a drop in monetary sales for fingerling and purple varieties due to supply issues. The average consumer price per pound has risen every year for the past five years, reaching $2.35 this year. Prices for 5- and 10-pound packages of fresh potatoes have seen the highest increase at 29.4% and 29.3% respectively, while prices for packages over 10 pounds have decreased by 27.3%.
