The poultry sector in Spain is facing a crisis due to rising costs that are making production unsustainable. The cost of animal feed raw materials has doubled in the last year and a half, and energy costs have increased dramatically. Despite these increased costs, the sale price to consumers has not risen sufficiently to cover the production costs, leading to many producers selling below cost. The Agricultural Unions (UUAA) are calling for a fair price for poultry products throughout the production chain to cover all costs and allow all sector professionals to work with dignity. They are also requesting support to maintain high animal quality standards without depending on third markets with less stringent legislation.
