Preliminary results of commercial quality control of fresh fruit and vegetables in Polish retail chains

The inspection was carried out in all 16 voivodeships. Commercial entities for inspection were selected by the voivodeship IJHARS inspectorates. According to the control programme, the inspectors checked large-area stores and large grocery stores. The quality and labeling of fresh fruit and vegetables were assessed in terms of compliance with the requirements set out in EU and national regulations. Checked e.g. fulfillment by traders of the obligation to provide information on the quantity of fruit and vegetables placed on the market, correct labeling of fresh fruit and vegetables, and information on the country of origin of products was verified. The inspection inspected a total of 69 retail stores operating within 10 retail chains. Various types of irregularities were found in 24 entities (i.e. 34.8 percent of the inspected entities).
