A container of nuclear waste has been transported from the 'Pacific Grebe' ship to a railcar at the Nordenham port for transit to the Niederaichbach interim storage facility in Germany. The ship, which docked from Great Britain, has been guarded by police due to anti-nuclear protests. The Greens and BN party have criticized the interim storage facilities, calling for improved protection and the rapid identification of a permanent storage site. The German Nature Conservation Association has also expressed safety concerns regarding the Niederaichbach facility. The nuclear waste, originally reprocessed in England, is being returned to Germany under international law.
