The Central Statistics Agency of Indonesia reported a deflation of 0.04% in September 2021 compared to the previous month, with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 106.53. This deflation was largely due to a decrease in the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.47%, and the information, communication and financial services group by 0.01%. The price of chicken eggs, cayenne pepper, and shallots specifically contributed to this decrease. However, the rise in cooking oil prices mitigated this deflation. Inflation was driven by volatile component prices and government-set prices for items such as gasoline and cigarettes. The deflation was experienced in 56 out of 90 CPI cities, with the highest deflation found in Gorontalo at 0.9%, and the lowest inflation was in Pangkal Pinang at 0.6%.
